A heat pump is an energy-efficient and versatile system that can heat and cool your home. Unlike traditional heating and cooling systems that generate heat or cool air, a heat pump transfers heat from one place to another, making it a highly efficient choice for year-round comfort.
A heat pump is an electrical device that moves heat between the indoors and outdoors. During the winter, it extracts heat from the outside air (even in cold temperatures) and transfers it inside to warm your home. In the summer, the process is reversed, and the heat pump pulls warm air from inside your home and releases it outside, cooling your living space.
At the heart of the heat pump is a refrigerant, a fluid that absorbs and releases heat as it circulates through the system. The heat pump has two main components: an indoor unit (evaporator) and an outdoor unit (condenser). In heating mode, the refrigerant in the outdoor unit absorbs heat from the air outside and compresses it to a higher temperature. This heat is then pumped indoors, where it’s released by the indoor unit. In cooling mode, the refrigerant is reversed, pulling heat from inside and releasing it outdoors.
Heat pumps use less energy than traditional heating and cooling systems because they don’t generate heat—they move it, making them highly efficient.
Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling, making them a versatile year-round solution for your home.
Since heat pumps don’t rely on burning fossil fuels, they produce fewer carbon emissions, making them an eco-friendly choice.
